Hi, I am Fiona Wallace, creative director of FWD (Fiona Wallace Design). I am a designer based in rural Fife, Scotland and I share my home with my husband, our son and our black labrador, Lily. I have always taken an interest in spaces, and I used to spend my childhood rearranging furniture in the house, creating cosy corners, and likely driving my mum mad whilst doing so! Design as a career path officially began in 2008 when I began studying architecture, and now, many years later, I established FWD, my own Interior Design Studio. After an undergraduate and a masters degree in Architecture, 3 years of working within an architectural practice, and a further 3 years developing a business (still utilising my design skills) at home alongside my husband, it was time for FWD to be accessible to others.

about me.

Throughout the years, I have studied the relationship that our built environment has on us, from our urban fabric, to architecture, and through the quality of our interior spaces.  A particular area that fascinates me is how these environments have a direct effect on our health and wellbeing, and this correlation is never more evident than within our own homes, the spaces in which we occupy most.

I believe that our homes, no matter how big, or how small, or no matter the circumstances outside of their walls, they should be our own places of sanctuary. If spaces do not effortlessly work to assist us in our day-to-day lives, then they often end up feeling like a barrier to our happiness, unable to bring us the calm and peaceful environments that we yearn for.

I have an affinity towards modest, neutral spaces that are minimalist yet also warm and comfortable, and my design style is influenced heavily by Japanese, Scandinavian  and Swiss architecture and interiors. For me, they are honest and true examples of spaces that are able to silence the noise, and place emphasis on the significant things, effortlessly harnessing everyday living in a minimalist way.

I aim to design with purpose, from the smallest of details to the bigger picture, refusing to give in to trends and fads, and instead help my clients develop a sense of home that is able to narrate the story of their lives and emotionally and functionally enhance the way they live now, and adapt with them in the future.
